Rwanda Presents Its Candidature to the ITU Council During Francophone Coordination Meeting in Geneva
Rwanda presented its candidature for election to the Council of the International Telecommunication Union (ITU) for the 2027–2030 term during a coordination meeting of the Francophone Ambassadors Group in Geneva, held in preparation for the upcoming Plenipotentiary Conference.
Chaired by Rwanda in its capacity as co-coordinator on digital and artificial intelligence issues, the meeting—organized in collaboration with the Organisation internationale de la Francophonie (OIF)—served as a platform for Member States to align positions and exchange on priorities ahead of the elections.
In this context, Rwanda announced its candidature, underscoring its commitment to contributing to an inclusive, secure, and innovative digital ecosystem, and to advancing work on universal connectivity, digital governance, and capacity building within the ITU.
The meeting also saw the presentation of candidatures by other Member States. France presented its candidacy for the leadership of the Radiocommunication Bureau, and Estonia presented its candidacy for the leadership of the Development Bureau. Candidacies for the Council, including notably Bulgaria, Canada, Côte d’Ivoire, Egypt, France, Morocco, Mauritius, Romania, Senegal, and Tunisia, were also presented.
