Rwanda Participates in WTO South-South Dialogue on LDC Trade Priorities
Rwanda participated in the 8th South-South Dialogue on Least Developed Countries (LDCs) and Development, hosted by the World Trade Organization in Geneva.
During the panel on evolving LDC trade priorities, Ambassador Urujeni Bakuramutsa highlighted the need for strengthened multilateral support to enable LDCs to unlock their full trade potential and address persistent structural imbalances in global trade.
The intervention emphasized the importance of operationalizing Special and Differential Treatment, scaling up Aid for Trade, improving market access, and supporting economic diversification and structural transformation. It also underscored the need to restore confidence in the multilateral trading system and deepen South–South cooperation as complementary pathways to inclusive growth.
Drawing on national experience, Rwanda shared progress in implementing trade facilitation reforms, including the modernization of customs procedures through the National Electronic Single Window, as well as investments in logistics infrastructure and regional integration frameworks. These efforts have contributed to reducing trade costs, improving efficiency, and strengthening regional connectivity.
The dialogue brought together WTO Members and partners to exchange perspectives on advancing trade-led development for LDCs, with a focus on practical solutions to enhance integration into the global economy.
