Rwanda Participates in AI for Peace Event on Conflict-Related Sexual Violence
Rwanda participated in the “AI for Peace: Amplifying the Voices of Survivors of Conflict-Related Sexual Violence (CRSV)” event held in Geneva as part of the global 16 Days of Activism against Gender-Based Violence campaign.
The event was hosted by United Nations Institute for Training and Research (UNITAR), Kigali Genocide Memorial and Generative AI for Good and brought together participants to reflect on the role of technology, storytelling, and survivor-centered approaches in addressing conflict-related sexual violence.
During the discussions, Ambassador Urujeni Bakuramutsa recalled the use of sexual violence as a weapon during the 1994 Genocide against the Tutsi in Rwanda and drew attention to the continued threat posed by armed groups operating in the region, including the FDLR. She stressed the importance of ensuring that conflict-related sexual violence is fully eradicated and that survivors’ voices continue to be amplified through global advocacy and collective action.
