Rwanda Highlights Role of Intellectual Property in Advancing a Knowledge-Based Economy at WIPO CDIP
Rwanda participated in the 36th session of the Committee on Development and Intellectual Property (CDIP) at the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) in Geneva.
Delivering Rwanda’s statement, Ambassador Urujeni Bakuramutsa emphasized the growing importance of intellectual property as a strategic tool to support economic resilience, value addition, and competitiveness, as the country advances towards a knowledge-based economy.
Ambassador Bakuramutsa also welcomed ongoing efforts to expand access to intellectual property knowledge and tools, highlighting the contribution of initiatives such as the “IP in a Box” platform and the WIPO-ARIPO IP Club project in strengthening innovation capacity, particularly among youth.
Rwanda's Statement further noted that the Country's engagement with the CDIP is already yielding tangible results in strengthening national capacity to design and implement intellectual property projects, particularly across priority sectors including creative industries, digital innovation, agri-processing, and health technologies.
