Rwanda Delivers Statement During HRC60 Discussions on Draft Resolution L.37 on the DRC
During the 60th session of the United Nations Human Rights Council, Rwanda delivered a statement during discussions on Draft Resolution L.37 on Technical Assistance and Capacity-Building in the Field of Human Rights in the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC).
Delivering Rwanda’s statement, Ambassador Urujeni Bakuramutsa raised concern over discrimination fueled by the continued spread of genocidal ideology by the UN-sanctioned FDLR, which Rwanda noted continues to operate with the support of the DRC government, allied militias, and certain DRC officials. She also called for the unequivocal condemnation of the Wazalendo militias for ongoing human rights violations.
Rwanda further welcomed the position expressed through the Africa Group against the politicization of human rights and the work of the Council, while emphasizing that Item 10 mechanisms on technical assistance and capacity-building should remain neutral, objective, and focused on delivering concrete improvements to the human rights situation in the DRC.
