HRC59: Rwanda Delivers Statement During Enhanced Interactive Dialogue on Eastern DRC
Rwanda participated in the 59th session of the United Nations Human Rights Council and delivered a statement during the Enhanced Interactive Dialogue on the situation in eastern Democratic Republic of the Congo.
Delivering Rwanda’s statement, Ambassador Urujeni Bakuramutsa raised concern over the continued insecurity in eastern DRC, stressing the need to address underlying governance and security challenges. Rwanda also denounced collaboration between the DRC and the FDLR, as well as cross-border attacks, airspace violations, and the disappearance of Rwandan nationals.
Rwanda further warned against hate speech targeting Congolese Rwandophones and expressed concern over public calls for regime change in Rwanda made by regional leaders, describing such rhetoric as a threat to regional peace and stability. The Ambassador also called on the fact-finding mission to remain impartial and free from political interference in order to preserve the credibility of the Council’s work.
