Rwanda Marks World Malaria Day in Geneva
On the occasion of World Malaria Day, Rwanda participated in a high-level discussion in Geneva focused on addressing antimalarial drug resistance and advancing global efforts towards malaria elimination.
Organized by Medicines for Malaria Venture and the RBM Partnership to End Malaria, the event brought together WHO, Member States, and global health partners to assess the growing threat of drug resistance and identify coordinated responses to sustain progress.
In her remarks, Ambassador Urujeni Bakuramutsa underscored the urgency of tackling emerging resistance, highlighting Rwanda’s experience in detecting partial artemisinin resistance, monitoring K13 mutations and delayed parasite clearance, and responding through strengthened surveillance, adaptive treatment guidelines, and updated strategies.
