HRC62: Rwanda's Statement during the Interactive Dialogue on Technical Assistance and Capacity-Building for South Sudan

Mr. President,

  1. Rwanda takes note of the Report of the Office of the High Commissioner and welcomes the continued technical assistance and capacity-building provided in support of the brotherly country of South Sudan.

  2. Rwanda welcomes the continued efforts to strengthen national institutions in South Sudan, with support from OHCHR, UNMISS, the African Union and other partners, particularly in transitional justice, the justice sector and national human rights institutions, including training for judicial officers, law-enforcement personnel and civil society.

  3. Technical assistance and capacity-building remain essential to strengthen national institutions, support national ownership, and ensure sustainable progress in the promotion and protection of human rights.

  4. Rwanda encourages continued technical assistance and capacity-building, guided by the priorities of the Government of the Republic of South Sudan, and aligned with African-led efforts to support peace, stability, reconciliation and institution-building for the benefit of its people.

I thank you.
