Ambassador Urujeni Bakuramutsa Meets UN Special Rapporteur on the Right to Development

Ambassador Urujeni Bakuramutsa received Mr. Surya Deva, United Nations Special Rapporteur on the Right to Development, for discussions on his mandate and Rwanda’s development experience.

The exchange focused on inclusive and participatory approaches to development, local ownership, resilience and the importance of ensuring that development policies respond to national priorities. Ambassador Urujeni shared Rwanda’s experience, including its decentralized approach and emphasis on data-driven policymaking and sustainable, locally owned solutions.

Discussions also covered the Special Rapporteur’s annual report on meaningful participation in development, which he will present to the 63rd session of the Human Rights Council. The report emphasizes active, free and meaningful participation throughout development decision-making and highlights its contribution to inclusive development, stronger ownership and better outcomes.
